Storing and disposing of single-use syringes

A box of 100 syringes is only useful if the hundredth one is as good as the first. Storage and disposal do most of that work.

Storage

  • Keep the box between 5 °C and 30 °C, dry, out of direct sunlight.
  • Leave each syringe in its pouch until the moment of use. A pouch that has been opened is no longer sterile.
  • Do not store the box in a bathroom, a vehicle or anywhere that cycles through damp and heat.
  • Keep the box out of reach of children.

Disposal

  • Single use means single use — do not rinse or reuse a syringe.
  • Put used syringes in a rigid sharps container with a secure lid. A thick plastic bottle with a screw cap works at home.
  • Do not put loose needles into household recycling or soft rubbish bags.
  • Seal the container when it is about three-quarters full. Many pharmacies and municipal collection points accept sealed sharps containers; follow your local rules.

If a pouch is damaged

Do not use that syringe. Send us the REF and LOT from the box and a photo, and we will replace the affected stock.
